Archaeological complex of caliphate city showcasing ruins on three levels.
The complex cannot be entered directly even though the corresponding Madinat al-Zahra Museum is, unfortunately, permanently closed. However, the archaeological site remains open. It has many fascinating rooms and details to enthrall you. The site also provides great views of the surrounding countryside and Cordoba. The signage around the complex can be improved, but there's enough there to give a very abridged history. Plan on spending about 2 hours at the site.
To get to the site you must first arrive at the museum location and once there park, and then pay for and board a shuttle bus that runs every 15-20 minutes while the complex is open. Your vehicle must remain parked in the museum parking lot. The shuttle bus fare is round-trip and you will board the same bus to return to the museum parking lot and your vehicle.

Beautiful place and very unique style and history. It's well maintained. A bit more expensive than I remember it being before... I think 11€ for an adult ticket.

We visited it at night, it is open till midnight, and it s free (11€ during the day),  you only  pay the bus from the parking to it, it costs 3 € (2 ways). It looked so nice with the lightning,  so romantic, I  think it is a great place for   a marriage proposal 😉. Very rich in history, nice to spend couple hours at night.

Medina Azahara - Conjunto Arqueológico Madinat al-Zahra

Absolutely terrible food. The selection was very diverse but one thing they all had in common, flavorless and unseasoned food. I tried the Chinese food which was undercooked and felt like a frozen meal 2/10. I also tried the grill station and got their XXL burger which looked amazing on the grill, but was horrific. Undercooked and NO SEASONING ON THE BURGER. It tasted like raw meat and even the cooked parts on the edges which I ate were so disgusting 0/10. I think frozen fast food burgers had more flavor. I than ventured over to the Mexican food station. The guy was very pleasant and did a great job on the grill. I ordered the burrito and nachos. The burrito was terrible man lettuce in a burrito is nasty and he barely put meat 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️. The nachos were decent and probably the only thing worth eating, ill give it a 3.5/10. I don't recommend this place at all, it looks like the hub for food in the area but its horrible and I had stomach issues most of the day after.

lots of variety of food and snacks, there is Arabic briani rice and types of chips, burgers, pizza, beer and coffee. for Muslims and looking for halal, you can go to a typical Arabic restaurant that serves many types of halal food. The place is clean, family friendly, close to a very kids friendly park.

Great place to go with kids and for people with special dietary needs. Has gluten free and dairy free options, also traditional Andalusian. One place even had a gluten-free menu on display. The coffee place serves lactose-free milk and has wrapped up gluten-free muffins and cookies. There are also some vegan options among the many food stalls. Crazy Potato is a save bet for kids and lovers of baked potatoes and nachos.
The food court is wheelchair / stroller accessible, has a toilet with baby changing station, and is located within a beautiful park with a playground not too far away.

Mercado Victoria

Impressive mosque, but very similar to a lot of others around this area of Spain. And at ten euros for a discounted entry without audio guide it’s far too expensive for what’s in there. There are some artefacts and displays at the end of the large hall but they don’t have any descriptions of what they are so it’s ultimately pointless. Church in a mosque though so that’s pretty cool , like a place of worshiped squared ⛪️^2

Fantastic experience! the entrance fee is 20 euro and you will be given a time when you can enter the cathedral. You can spend as much time as you like. Both the Muslim part and the Catholic part of the structure are impressive in their own right, but the courtyard in front to f the temple is also impressive and should not be treated as an afterthought. It will take you at least an hour to properly tour the cathedral. If you visit on Sunday you will be asked to leave before the first mass begins, which I believe is at noon.

I did not get a chance to go inside but I know tickets are €13. The outside is still so cool to walk around & explore. This place is enormous & it’s so crazy to think that architecture like this was done in the past without technology & still standing today. The town is also known for their bitter oranges here & has a mini orange tree in the middle courtyard. Would definitely recommend visiting! And it’s also right next to the bridge where games of thrones was shot apparently.

Mosque-Cathedral of Córdoba

Read amazing reviews and our host also recommended that we visit this museum. We just got back from visiting the Mosque-cathedral and didn't intend to go inside as we might not have enough time.

I believe the main museum was closed temporarily at the time we visit (not sure if it still is), but we were warmly invited to go in and walk around the courtyard for free.

Definitely worth a visit. Free for European citizens, €1.5 if not. It explains the history of Córdoba from paleolithic to early Middle Ages with no risk of information overload. Bonus: Roman theatre ruins in the basement. The piazza in from of the museum is very pretty.

It's an amazing experience to see the Roman relics like mosaics and the ruins here. They set up exhibitions and concerts as well. We saw the live broadcast of Nabucco here from Teatro Real, Madrid last summer. Highly recommended site not to miss when you visit Córdoba.

Museo Arqueológico de Córdoba

Hidden gem off the touristy part of Cordoba. A well maintained renaissance palace with a rich history.

The outside area consists of several picturesque gardens that each have their own theme and invite the visitor to a long stroll on a hot day.

The inside area gives historical insight to the different owners of the palace and their life at the respective times.

The visits to the ground floor area takes about 1-2 hours. One can also visit the first floor, where there is a guided tour and historical artifacts.

Only visited the 17 patios because the upstairs is only with a guide and I didn’t have the time to do it unfortunately. It would be nice to be able to visit it freely without a guide. Anyway, the gardens were really nice. You can visit them as you want. It’s very nice to see patios even outside the festival.

What an amazingly beautiful palace and gardens. Definitely  got the Wow factor!

The bridge itself is impressive and worth a visit with the tower of Calahorra at the end and one of the best views of the Mosque from here.

It’s a relaxing walk and great for beautiful photo opportunities. They river itself is not well maintained and although this area has changed a lot for good in the last few years…. The city needs more planning to do. They should clean the scrum debris and jungle like vegetation from the river and adapt the sides of the river for walking and exercising.

Glorious views. This is the jewel in the crown of what is otherwise also a beautiful little city. Córdoba really does have it going on. Will be returning to stay longer next time.

Román era bridge showing  the genius of Román architecture as they conquered Europe in the early 1st century  It is long and wide.  It has been rebuilt throughout the years but I still felt hesitant to cross the bridge.  It was a sight to see and I was very impressed to have been able to see it upclose along with the ancient water mill.
