It was an amazing location, right across from the castle, and not far from the train station. It was cheap, but really good quality. I've stayed in a few different hostels recently, and this one was by far the best! It felt really homey, the staff were really nice - they recommended things for us to do, and also hold events every night. The rooms themselves were really cute, and you get 2 pillows, which was a nice surprise. Everything seemed to be really clean, and even though there were a lot of people in a room, it didn't feel cramped at all.

This may be listed as a 2 star hotel, but it was a five star stay!
We stayed in a four person room, for four nights in late July and, if you’re staying in hostels on your trip, this one is top notch!
From the clean and comfortable rooms, to the very clean bathrooms, to the lounges, kitchen / dining room and the excellent staff, I would very happily stay here again.
You are literally a stone’s throw from Edinburgh castle.  You can look out the window from your room and read the printing on the flags at the castle.  You’re a 2 minute walk from the Royal mile, if you walk slowly.
The rooms are setup nicely, with lockers for your personal gear, right below your bunk.
We used two of the lounges to sit comfortably and catch up on writing and watching some TV on the laptop.
The staff were all fabulous, friendly and very helpful.
The light breakfast in the dining room was good, for £2.50, was a good deal and a good start to the day.
Book in, meet some cool people, and enjoy a little home away from home.

Fantastic hostel in an absolutely great location right next to Edinburgh castle. The hostel had a wide variety of visitors from multiple countries and ages ranged from 20's to 60's by my estimation. I had a large bag of laundry washed and folded delivered to my room for 5 pounds and a turn around time of less than 5 hours. The kitchen is huge and has everything you need and plenty of refrigerators for food storage and very clean. There were plenty of places to hang out and read or play games or just have a quiet read. The hostel is large but not loud or rowdy. There was some noise from the surrounding streets mostly coming from the bars with singing at closing time but for me this just added to the cultural experience. A lot of the staff seems to live and work there so this I think makes it a better hostel since it feels like they take good care of it and treat it like it is their home. I have traveled and been to a lot of hostels but this one is a stand out. Do not miss if visiting the fabulous city of Edinburgh. Also the staff was fantastic.

Castle Rock Hostel

Hopefully, you're not coming up Jacobs ladder to get up to the hill because you're going to be in for a lot of steps. Nevertheless, it is very beautiful once you get to the top of Carlton Hill. The views of the city, the sea, and Arthur's Seat are absolutely breathtaking. Definitely a must see

One of my favourite place in Edinburgh. The city view is incredible and you only need 10 mins to walk up the hill. The architectures are so classic, wonderful for Instagram photos. But do wear easy to walk shoes if you want to climb up the monument

Absolutely amazing 👏🏼 😍 I spend more hours to stay here, looked around.. The view from the top was incredible 😍 Beautiful,  relaxing 😌 and really worth for a walk.. to reach on the top it usually take 15 minutes... and enough to see the whole edinburgh with beautiful view 😍....Highly recommend 👌

Calton Hill

Loved this castle!! You are free to roam in the order you want and to see inside buildings as you desire. Not 100% accessible, but you could spend hours there! We liked going earlier cause it was less crowded. You can stay as long as you want, so later in the day the crowds just grow. Lots of military museum spaces. Enthusiasts will love it! No pics allowed when viewing the Crown Jewels, nor in one other memorial building for deceased servicemen. Everything else is fine for pics. Great picture ops everywhere! Incredible view! We went in April and the wind made it quite cold so dress warm!

Great place. Some hints for your visit.
1. Prepay ticket and arrive 10 minutes prior to time on ticket.
2. Buy tickets before 1pm or 1300 so you can view the 1pm cannon firing. Make sure to find a spot to view the firingat least by 1245. Most. Good spots will be taken by then
3.There are several museums/areas on the castle grounds. A few of them are the Prison, National war museum and Royal Scots Dragoon.
I found them to be nice and worth the time to spend exploring.
4. Bathrooms are available  and first one as you enter on the left hand side.
5. The Scottish jewels was the longest wait of all places.
6. The have audio tours you can purchase  to the right of the entrance if that is something you are interested in.
7. I would give myself  at least 2 hours  for museums and touring the castle.
8. Highly recommended

Amazing place. It has lots of open areas and you visit the “rooms”, cathedral and others. It is like a little old town with lots of history. Very different to other traditional castles in the UK. I absolutely loved it.
The view is stunning. It is worth a visit and even better if clear sky.

Castello di Edimburgo

What an amazing place to visit and should be on your sightseeing bucket list. It had such a beautiful and calming atmosphere set within such a historic place. Its worth the visit if your ever up here in Edinburgh and strongly recommend it. Its free to get in and you can make a donation if you like.

Beautiful!
I suggest to anyone to come here to view this beautiful cathedral. Whether you are religious or not, it is a sight to see. The stained glass is beautiful and the architecture and artwork.
They have a gift shop as well.
They suggest a £5 donation for tourists

Amazing place! A must visit it’s super near the Edinburgh castle and the royal mile so you can’t not come here. It’s free to visit and take pictures, but you also have the option to donate (money or contactless). Let the beauty sink in of this amazing cathedral! Also wheelchair accessible!

The story of Bobby the little faithful loyal dog is well worth a read and the fact that it is a true story is amazing.
The graveyard where the little dog now rests is well kept and full of history.

Bobby the little dog shows how our animal friends truly love us. The grave yard is well worth a visit to see the little dogs grave and his masters.

This is where the famous Thomas Riddell and Katherine Riddell was buried. One of the tourist attraction here in Edinburg. More well known name are actually buried here, we saw group tours that go here. But us we just walked in by ourselves. But this is a must visit place as well.

Greyfriars Kirkyard

The iconic monument, I love love all the details of this monument. Too close to the train station so you can see it once you arrive or before you leave and enjoy the beautiful greenery space around it. You can either talk a 10 minutes walk around the place or sit and enjoy the scenes.

The streets look really calm as I was walking in the morning but during the noon and evening times it was so packed there was no place for me to walk lol! And someone with a bit of social anxiety it can be a bit overwhelming! But it’s really great! The view and the ambience of the streets are awesome! It’s so adorable walking through the streets as most of the buildings are old and great!

The Scott Monument is a Victorian Gothic monument erected to writer Sir William Scott.  It is situated on Princes Street right across from Jenner’s.  The monument has 64 different figures displayed, not counting Scott and his dog, from Scott’s novels. The monument was inaugurated on August 15, 1846, but there is a lot of rich history behind where the design came from and how it was paid for as in the process of being developed the budget was blown and a person who won the contest for the design (George Kemp) was a joiner who applied for the contest under a false name.  Other interesting obstacles include that the heavy marble that was used to build the monument came from Italy so they had trouble finding hoists to move such heavy stones.  And before the monument was finally built, Kemp died under mysterious circumstances. There are stories that he was killed by a rival opponent who was upset that they didn’t win the design contest or he drank and died by falling into the Union Canal on his way home.  The monument was left unfinished and Kemp’s son finally finished the project. Now, if you have some time and you want to have an entirely-claustrophobic and terrifying, adrenaline-charged experience and burn a few calories, pay the £3 or whatever the price is now and ascend the half inch spiral staircase to the top to the pinnacle of death for amazing views of Edinburgh.  This trip is not for the faint of heart or anyone with a robust girth.  If you climb this stairwell, I assure you that you’ll only want to do this once in your lifetime.  This isn’t an excursion that you’ll want to do again.

One of the most picturesque streets in Edinburgh. Not to mention a popular hang out of Vision and Wanda from Marvel.
